OUTSTANDING MANAGER

Top candidates...

Brandon Viale (Wrecking Crew owner): The Wrecking Crew had been a playoff team the last two seasons with Morton brothers Matthew and Cameron running the show, but both departed to the Lynx for JAL 25. When Brandon acquired ownership of the team during the offseason, he had to build a new roster nearly from scratch. Amazingly, Viale assembled a title-contending squad by trading for Josh Burckhardt and plucking free agents Chase Johnson, Sean McFarland and Krister Embree — four All-Star players from the prior year. In JAL 25 the Crew have been underwhelming for much of the season, showing flaws in pitching depth and reliability issues with Embree and McFarland, but still achieved wins over the Lynx and Bambinos and closed the regular season strong to finish 5-3.

Cale Johnson (Cobras owner): The team had a 1-7 record last year and allowed their top player, Colton Carlson, to depart and take the Lawmen's GM job in the offseason. Midway through JAL 25, ace arm Kevin Barnett decided to retire from pitching. Cale acquired four new players to the team this year, including two rookies, and had four different pitchers start a game. These combination of circumstances would typically result in a poor season, but the Cobras managed to improve to 3-5, narrowly missing the playoffs and surpassing expectations.

Colton Carlson (Lawmen GM): Colton's first season in JAL franchise management as the Lawmen's GM was expected to be a full-rebuild struggle and that's exactly how it began.. The team added four new rookies and started 0-4. Slowly, however, things began improving for the Lawmen and they finished the back half of the season 4-0, finishing .500 overall and just shy of the playoffs. Much of the success can be attributed to Colton's patience in team development and acquisition of rookie batting standout Stephen Rooklidge.

Gage Metzger (Bison GM): Last year the Bison had two of the best rookies in the league, including All-Star batter Krister Embree, but lost them both to free agency during the offseason. Gage replaced them by elevating Landen Patterson to a bigger role and took a chance on Keegan Hammer, a free agent who struggled in his first couple career seasons, didn't play in JAL 24 and seemed unlikely to ever be signed again. Keegan hit .302 and Landen .300, helping provide the Bison with almost exactly the same offensive production as last year. Despite offseason changes and concerns, the Bison finished 7-1 for a second straight season.

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER

Top candidates...

Blake Larwick: Blake was an All-Star as a rookie last season, but this year made the jump to becoming an MVP candidate. Last season Blake finished with a 12.86 ERA and 5-2 pitching record. This season he cut his ERA in half at 6.03 and went unbeaten in the circle at 7-0. Offensively Blake also dramatically improved his stats, most notably with his average improving from .175 in JAL 24 to .367 in JAL 25.

Colton Carlson: In his first two career seasons with the Cobras, Colton was a solid role player. This year he moved to the Lawmen and accomplished significant statistical boosts, elevating his status around the league. Colton's JAL 25 performance leaps can be seen in two major stat categories — Batting Average (JAL 23 .290, JAL 24 .222, JAL 25 .325) and ERA (JAL 24 32.63, JAL 25 19.29). Lastly, Colton was a role player on back-to-back 1-7 Cobras teams in JAL 23-24, then was the best player on this season's 4-4 Lawmen squad.

Keegan Hammer: Keegan only mustered 1 career hit in his first two career seasons, JAL 22-23, then in JAL 24 he did not play. In JAL 25 Keegan was signed by the Bison and made the most of his career "second chance" by swinging for 16 hits, 5 home runs and a .302 average.

Owen Erickson: As a rookie last year Owen solidified himself as a "decent," on-base style batter, swinging .286 but only on 4 total hits. This year he finished with a similar .279 average, but did so on 17 hits, including 4 home runs, thus changing the perception from "decent" to "dangerous." He also finished with 70 RBI, the 2nd highest amount in the league.

OUTSTANDING COMEBBACK

Top candidates...

Austin McQuilliams: Austin played for a couple seasons with the Wrecking Crew and Waves back in JAL 20-21. After graduating high school he went on to play college baseball outside the league area. Midway through this season he made his way back into the league with the Cobras. Austin hit a career high .276 and made himself into a pitching option for the Cobras.

Keegan Hammer: After a difficult first two-year stint with the Cobras in JAL 22-23, Keegan did not play in JAL 24 and his career was assumed over prior to being picked up by the Bison for JAL 25. Keegan shattered expectations and his prior career stats by posting a team-high .302 average on 16 hits and 5 home runs, ultimately placing him in All-Star consideration.

Reed Elo: Reed played one season back in JAL 20 with the Crew before graduating high school and departing from the league area. This season he returned with the Waves and fashioned himself into a legitimate ace-level pitcher. During JAL 20 Reed threw in just 3 games and posted a 26.36 ERA. This season he pitched in 5 games and improved to a 19.80 ERA.
